Information

Update December 7, 2024: Behind the scenes, the DX-Adventure team is working at full speed to prepare everything as good as possible for the upcoming VU4X DXpedition in March 2025. We have already started packing all the radio equipment that needs to go with us. The 37 suitcases we currently have booked will probably be not enough to get everything with us. In the coming weeks it will really become clear how many more suitcases are needed. The expense of all the luggage is very high. One 23kg suitcase costs more than $600. Then we are not talking about oversize suitcases in which we carry all the antennas and towers. The ast weeks we received voluntary donations from radio amateurs from Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Japan and USA. We appreciate your support and are extremely grateful for your contributions.

Update November 11, 2024:  We had a very productive day at our new team meeting Saturday, November 9th, was noted in the agenda as a new VU4X team meeting | test day.

Team members present: DJ5MO Jelmer | ON4AMX Marc | ON4HIL Patrick | ON5UR Max | ON5TN Karel | ON6CC Marc | ON7RU Franky | ON7USB Geert | ON8AZ Francis | PA3EWP Ron | PA9M Marcel.

We agreed to meet at 8 o'clock, first it was time to catch up with coffee and delicious pastries. Then we looked at what was on the "To do list", because it would be a very long day. ON4HIL Patrick, first gave us an extensive explanation about the bandstop filters he is building.

Then the tasks were divided into groups and we could get to work. We gathered a lot of material together, after this was all divided, it was time for a first big test day.

The agenda included:
•   Building and testing the two Spiderbeams.
•   Measuring high power bandpass filters.
•   Testing and measuring the bandstop filters.
•   Preparing coaxial cables (800 m).
•   Building stations and computers, placing them in networks and testing them.
•   Testing stations and antennas in combination with the high power bandpass filters and the bandstop filters.

The first tests and results were very positive. We could conclude that it was a very cool and productive day. We worked almost around the clock, high time to close, some people still had a return trip of 250 km ahead of them.

Update October 15, 2024:  Some radio amateurs are very disappointed with our DXpedition because according to them we do not pay attention to 50 MHz | 6 Mtr. Other radio amateurs wonder why we do not do 50 MHz | 6 Mtr. Every week we get a lot of questions about this from different countries.

It's not that we don't want to, we would even like to be active on 50 MHz | 6 Mtr during the VU4X DX-pedition. But unfortunately the law decides otherwise. On Andaman Island 50 MHz | 6 Mtr is only allowed with a maximum power of 25 Watt | FM.

We have been asking for an exception for a long time. Hoping that we will be granted temporary permission to use more power and different modes. There have been several contacts with the Ministry of Communications. At the moment we have not yet received a final decision or positive answer. But we continue to ask the question and hope together with you for a positive answer.

Update October 1, 2024: The weather did not look too good, but Saturday, September 28, had been noted in our agenda for some time as the first VU4X antenna day. At 8 a.m. we met at Patrick ON4HIL’s house. Patrick and Betty welcomed us with coffee and delicious coffee cakes. Then it was time for antenna work and we started building the first antennas. On the agenda were the 160 Mtr – 80 Mtr and 60 Mtr vertical with elevated radials. Everything was neatly measured out and it was nice to experiment and see what influences some things did or did not have on the antennas | radials.

Update August 29, 2024: The entire team is working hard to prepare for the Andaman Islands DX-pedition 2025. We also received the first donations. Many thanks for that. All donations >20 Euro automatically received a "Thank you award" in their mailbox. A .jpg file that you can use on social media and also in PDF in high resolution for the people who like to print it.
Soon more news...
